Education and Training

Elena received her B.Sc. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, in 2019. She continued her studies at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth from where she graduated with an M.S. in Biomedical Sciences in 2020. While working in the biochemistry laboratory at Trinity, she explored binding interactions between peptides and a class of macromolecules called Cucurbiturils. As a research assistant in the Najafov Lab, she seeks to study the underlying mechanisms of necroptosis and how this programmed form of cell death is linked to tumor progression. Outside the lab, Elena enjoys photography, reading, and running.
